Ashley: Running is my stress reliever. If I don’t get a good run in every couple of days I’m a crabby patty! Staying active is just a part of our lives, and it’s a great way to keep up with the kids and their high energy.
What do you think Fort Worth is doing differently than other burgeoning cities?
Ashley: Fort Worth is really thinking about ways to keep the city active and not just building a bunch of developments that don’t cater to active lifestyles.
What went into your decision to join the military right out of high school?
Ashley: I noticed all the people that stayed [home] and went to college never left. They always came back home and were stuck in Chicago. I wanted to travel and see the world, [and I wanted] independence. I couldn’t do that going to school and working to pay for it.
What do you admire most about your partner?
Ashley: His selflessness. He is the most giving person you will ever find and hardly ever thinks of himself.
What is your favorite thing about your current house?
Ashley: The fact the kids have the entire upstairs to themselves. They can destroy it, and it’s neatly tucked away so people can’t see it!

Andy: Our aim is to create a very sustainable impact. One of the questions we often ask is: Can we rebuild America as a collective community? And the answer is yes we can. We invest in veterans who then invest in the community, and it creates a lasting sustainable impact.
Is real estate a safe investment?
Real Estate was a safe haven for me and Ashley. It was a safe investment vehicle that allowed for us to serve our community in a small way as we built a portfolio of rental properties. After a few projects, we realized that impact investing was our calling. We used it as a bridge to get back home from Iraq, to start a family, and ultimately build a business.
